Which Filter Press Should I Use for Waste Removal?

Plate and frame presses are standard tools in waste removal. Specifically, they are used for sludge dewatering, which removes the liquid component from waste. The result is a lighter and drier sludge that is easier to move offsite.

Depending on your situation, you may want to operate with a plate and frame filter press or belt press. See below to learn more about your waste removal options if you are considering a filter press rental.

Plate and Frame Presses

Plate and frame filtration is an older technology that is still very effective. It uses pressure to remove water from solid waste. A diaphragm or trash pump is used to generate force. Filter presses effectively remove high quantities of water, so if you have a job that cannot handle overly wet sludge, plate and frame filtering is your best option. Usually, plate and frame presses are used in biological sludge clean-up that requires a dehydrated cake. Within the plate and frame filters category, you can use a high-pressure press or low-pressure press. High-pressure presses can produce an even drier cake than their low-pressure counterparts.

Belt Presses

Belt presses are helpful for continuous operation. They do not produce as dry of a cake but are often used in paper mills, municipal waste treatment and river silt removal. Instead of pressure, sludge is moved on dewatering belts that allow water to pass through by gravity. The result is pressed under rollers to remove excess water. The sludge is taken off the belt while the water is transported for further processing. The waste is not as dry as plate and frame presses. However, they can handle a much higher volume of waste at faster speeds.

Filter presses are essential for clean water and waste removal. If you have sludge waste that needs to be removed from your property, contact a professional to see what option works best for you.
