5 Tips to Refresh Yourself After an Exhausting Trip

Upon hearing the word “vacation,“ many people start thinking of adjectives like fun, exciting, and refreshing. But the tough truth to admit is that you don’t really feel the same when you return from a trip.

To get back into everyday life with renewed vigor will require you to take a few extra steps on your part. But once you do get through those first few days, you are bound to bounce back from post-travel fatigue instantly.

Here are the top five tips to refresh yourself after an exhausting trip.

Get over that jetlag

A lot of people suffer from jet lag once they return from a vacation. A broken sleep routine can also be quite difficult in terms of coping with your everyday schedule. But no matter how tempting it might be to sleep before bedtime, you have to force yourself to stay awake until the local bedtime to get your body clock back to normal. This will help you to get over jet lag faster.

A good way to ensure this is to expose yourself to sunlight so that you can fight the urge to fall asleep. Make a point to sleep for at least eight hours and if needed, you can also take pain medication to relax your body and recover from any strains or aches.

Take an entire day off to recuperate and rest

We understand that returning home after leaving it for days would leave you with a lot of chores to finish when you come back. You might have to stock the pantry, clean your home, take out the trash, and other similar activities. But, it will do you well if you take one day off for a little recovery time before getting back to your busy schedule.

A good tip would be to carefully plan certain things before you leave for your vacation. Draft a schedule to help you understand the tasks that you would need to do after you return home. Trust us when we tell you that this can save you a lot of time in the long run.

You can also indulge in a little bit of TLC on your day off. Most of the time, sitting for hours at a stretch on a flight, bus, or car can leave your body feeling its brunt. It can definitely get mentally and physically taxing, leaving you with a stiff neck and sore muscles.

To help you feel energized, you can indulge in some beauty parlor therapy. For example, apply a face mask, dip your feet in a tub of hot water, or soak in a warm bath. After you have cleaned yourself, don’t forget to follow your basic skincare regime of using a moisturizer, eye cream, and lip balm. Due to sudden changes in the atmosphere as well, the pH levels of your skin may become imbalanced.

Create the perfect sleeping environment for you

One of the best ways to feel better after an exhausting trip is to get deep sleep. In fact, the deeper your slumber, the more energetic you will feel once you wake up.

In order to achieve this, you have to create an optimal sleeping environment. Firstly, make sure that your bed is clean and comfortable. The temperature in your room should be optimal without being too hot or too cold. If you want, you can also use an eye mask and earplugs to block any unnecessary noise or lights in your room.

Make sure that your room is as dark as possible because our body instinctively associates darkness with bedtime. Also, being in complete darkness can help to stimulate the production of melatonin in our body which is a sleep-promoting hormone. This way, when you wake up from an entire night of sleep, you will be more than ready to face the world the next day.

Drink lots of water and veggie and fruit smoothies

There is absolutely nothing that can get you back on your feet faster than an antioxidant and vitamin-rich smoothie and fresh hydration. Also, this can be a healthy and tasty change for your body from all the vacation food that you had enjoyed.

In fact, for the next week, try to incorporate a diet that can help to clean your body system. For example, drinking 2 cups of green tea a day can help to regulate your digestive system while giving you a steady boost of energy. Try to avoid sugar and any other stimulating products.

Start treating any sunburn or peeling skin issues

One of the most ideal places for enjoying a vacation is on the beach soaking under the goodness of the sun. While getting some vitamin D can be good for your mind and, of course, that tan, exposing yourself too much to the rays of the sun can lead to sunburns of various degrees.

Sunburns can be quite painful if you don’t treat them immediately once you return home. The most effective remedy for sunburns is to apply a thick, fresh layer of aloe vera gel or juice on the affected area(s) at least five times a day. Repeat this process for the next couple of days until the burn is treated. Aloe vera is a wonderful and natural ingredient that can cause the blood vessels to constrict by effectively taking out the redness and sting from the affected area(s).

If you are suffering from peeling skin, which is normal after a sunburn, take a lukewarm water bath for this purpose. A common mistake that people make is to take a bath using hot water but this can irritate it further causing pain. On the other hand, lukewarm water will have a soothing effect on your sunburned skin.

After the bath, use a soft disposable cleansing cloth or washcloth to gently wipe the peeling skin. Not only will this help to remove any hanging pieces of loose skin, but it will also not harm the healthy skin underneath.
