Tips To Keep Your Marriage Healthy

Keeping your marriage healthy takes work because marriage is a commitment more than it is a feeling. Once the puppy love phase has passed, you and your spouse are likely to face challenges. There are several ways that head off some of the problems that are likely to arise.

Spend Time Together

As simple as this sounds, spending time together is of utmost importance. If you don’t take the time to be together as a couple, you may find yourselves in couples therapy Pennsylvania early in your marriage. Spending time together doesn’t mean just being in the same room doing two different activities. It means that you should set aside time to really be together. In other words, make your spouse a top priority right along with paying your bills and getting a good night’s sleep.

Watch Your Spending

Money is the number one thing that couples fight over, so create a financial plan early in your marriage. Decide who will handle which accounts and how much discretionary money each spouse will have each month. Transparency is key. If you splurge on expensive shoes or a night out with the guys, fess up quickly. Nothing tears a relationship apart faster than keeping secrets.

Stay Active

There is a good chance that 15 or 20 years later, you won’t be able to fit into your wedding clothes. Putting on a little weight is a natural occurrence that happens when you get older and your metabolism slows down. In a healthy relationship, your spouse won’t even notice a few extra pounds. However, if you stop taking care of yourself altogether, that’s a terrible burden to put on your partner. You don’t have to have the body of a marathoner your entire life, but you should strive to stay active and fit for yourself and your spouse.

A healthy marriage is one where both partners actively work to keep the partnership in a good state. It takes more than just wedding day vows to keep a marriage solid.
