Almost as upsetting as the Passion Cafe closure is the temporary closure of the Sidebar Tavern & Restaurant (112 Seventh St.) just up the street at 7th and Mission.
The other day, I came across a notice posted in their doorway explaining the situation (complete with local recommendations!):
As of December 2, 2011 and until further notice, SIDEBAR will be closed temporarily to implement new concept changes to the menu and decor, and will only reopen to private parties. The new look is scheduled to be revealed by spring under the same name.
In the meantime, we recommend the following places which are less than a block away:
• Custom Burger & Lounge for great all-American breakfast, lunch, dinner and happy hour (across the street at 7th & Natoma)
• AQ for fine dining (985 Mission Street, at 7th)
• Tony Baloney’s (7th and Howard) and Caffe Moda (7th & Natoma) for quick service
Thank you for your patronage and support of Sidebar! See you in the spring!
We hope to find some more details on this, but I can recall how secretive they were about the Wine Tavern before it opened. I actually enjoyed eating there though, and I know the Reluctant Reviewer thought it was worth her trip back in July.
We’ll keep you posted.
