A Secret SOMA Brewery is About to Go Public!

By Seema

Did you know SoMa has one of the city’s coolest nano-breweries hidden on Clara & 5th Street? Pacific Brewing Laboratories (214 Clara Street, better known as Pac Brew Lab) began in 2010 when Bryan Hermannsson and Patrick Horn met through the brewing community and began experimenting with different flavors and techniques. Brewing 10-gallon batches at a time, they have come up with a variety of beers including their popular ‘Squid Ink Black IPA’ and ‘Hibiscus Saison’.

Giving New Meaning to "Home Brew'

Bryan and Patrick throw open their garage door and welcome the public in to sip on their latest beers, chat to them about the brewing process and try some food pairings from pop-up vendors. Food vendors have included Wise Sons Jewish DelicatessenLe TrucThe Butcher’s Daughter and Nosh This. Bryan and Patrick place a large importance on local ingredients and working with small, independent vendors.

Expansion is on the rise for Pac Brew Lab. They are beginning to brew out of Devil’s Canyon Brewery in Belmont, CA and should have product ready by mid to late November. So, tomorrow [November 3, 2011] will be their LAST brew night. If you haven’t had a chance to try their beer yet, you should definitely take the time to stop by tomorrow night.

Craving some good beer now that Pac Brew Lab will no longer be having brew nights? Patrick recommends City Beer Store (1168 Folsom St.) “hands down” for SoMa’s best selection of beer but also says Zero Zero (826 Folsom St.), Radius (1123 Folsom St.), Town Hall (342 Howard St.) and Anchor & Hope (83 Minna St.) have great small eclectic beer lists as well.

We will keep you updated as soon as we hear where and when their beer will be available for sale to the public. For more information about tomorrow’s Farewell Sendoff, check here.
