Election Results Have Begun…

Update on November 6th, 2010:

It looks like we have two Candidates left in the District 6 Supervisor Election. According to the most recent Ranked Choice calculations, everyone save for Debra Walker and Jane Kim have been eliminated. You can check out the 27 page Ranked Choice elimination process here.

See below for the most updated election results. Jane Kim still holds a lead, although Debra Walker has caught up to within 5 percentage points. I hope to have an Election Wrap Up next week, so check back!

Update on November 3rd, 2010:

So it appears to me that there were no big surprises or upsets in the District 6 Supervisor Election yesterday. The results below are NOT final as they are still running through the somewhat confusing ‘ranked choice’ voting in order to reach a true majority winner.

From what it seems, though, it will either be Jane Kim or Debra Walker. This should really come as no surprise to anyone. Heck, I even saw it coming two weeks ago

The real shocker in this election was that Theresa appears over 10% points behind the two leaders; after all of the speculation (as well as two online polls where she cleaned house). That, and the fact that no other Candidate hit 5% of the vote.

Oh, and a big Congratulations to Matt Drake, who pulled in at fourth place! Very surprising to me based on the fact that he had what I consider to be minimal campaign exposure, and he’s probably the most conservative of the bunch. In a town where Prop 19 passed in a landslide (even though it lost statewide), and Jerry Brown made the race for Governor laughable, that’s saying something about Mr. Drake.

We’ll continue to cover the results over the next week or so, depending on how long it takes to find a true winner.

NOTE: If you like our coverage of the District 6 Supervisor Race tonight (or since back when we were one of the first local outlets who started in mid-March, 2010), feel free to click on an Ad or two; or even BUY LIVESOMA A BEER. We’ve done EVERYTHING toward covering this race for FREE including videos (with pie charts and graphs!), articles, a Candidate Corner that spread the word about the Candidates. We did it for the neighborhood. Because we love you! Besides, some of the ads are actually pretty cool. Pick up some Giants gear!

Original Post from This Morning:

Finally, the day is here. We can move forward and focus on other parts of the Neighborhood beyond the District 6 Supervisor Election because, after today, it will be out of our hands.

If you don’t know where to vote, you can find out by clicking here. Just enter your address, and they’ll show you where your polling location will be.

I hope that our coverage has given you some sort of perspective, and allowed you to get to know each of the Candidates so that you could decide who you want to vote for, and make the right decision.

It’s been very interesting for us to cover this election because, a. it’s our first local election in South of Market, b. there were quite a diverse and unique crop of Candidates to get to know, and c. it was a great way for me, personally, to get a handle on the local political scene.

Overall, I feel that each Candidate that I’ve had the opportunity to meet with is qualified to take on the role of chief F-bomb dropper on the Supervisor stage. While placing my vote(s)- remember, you get to pick your top 3- I used the following criteria to base my vote(s):

• Who will continue to involve local residents in their attempt to build a stronger Community in District 6?

• Who will pay attention to all of the different (and unique) needs of each and every neighborhood in District 6?

• Who is focused on the issues at hand.

Sometimes in Politics, I find that these factors can all be skewed by finger pointing, negative campaigning and other irrelevant factors. I’m glad that, for the most part, this election steered shy of those elements.

We’re gonna try to update election results every hour or so this evening, and the rest of this week as I’ve learned that it might take up to a week to determine who the winner is.

And to all the District 6 Supervisor Candidates, I wish you luck. Thank you all for being so hospitable and for entertaining our sometimes seemingly harsh coverage of this race. It was nothing personal, whatsoever. We were just trying to provide the best possible information so that voters could make an ‘informed’ decision as opposed to jumping on the endorsement bandwagon. I hope you all understand that, and that the winner will continue to work with us, and other members of District 6 to build a neighborhood throughout.

What About Statewide Elections…

We haven’t covered the Statewide Elections here because there are definitely better sources of information for you on those. I did read that Mayor Gavin Newsom will be hosting a Lieutenant Governor Victory Party at Tres Agaves (130 Townsend St) in South of Market. If you like him, head over there and toast to his possible victory with an ice cold signature margarita. Party starts at 8 p.m. sharp.
