Happening Now: Muni Bus Fire on 4th Street

UPDATE:
I’ve received some follow-up photos of the Bus Removal Process. One in particular is BEGGING for an ‘Insert-Your-Caption-Here’ Comment. If you’ve got one, feel free to add it below.
All in all, the bus was cleared in just under 1.5 hours. Aside from a large white-spot (which apparently gets kicked up by traffic to create a near constant dust cloud along Fourth), you’d never know there was a double long bus sitting there full of smoke this morning. Good work, Muni. For once.
Here’s the new photos (SEE Older ones below)…
Original Post from this Morning.
A couple of minutes ago, an 8x Bayshore Muni Bus had to pull over outside of Whole Foods because it filled with white smoke. The doors opened, a full busload of people were forced out on the side of Fourth Street, chased by a smoke monster that completely enveloped the intersection of Fourth and Harrison.
LiveSOMA was ‘on the scene’, and spoke to a couple passengers as well as the driver. Apparently the word on the street is total engine failure. One passenger said that he thought it was a bomb or something as nobody knew what was going on. The bus driver explained how the whole bus filled with white smoke to the point where she couldn’t see and had to stop.
Her quick reaction prevented any injuries, although an SFFD Ambulance arrived a few minutes later to double check the situation. Passengers were also asked to fill out ‘comment card’ type sheets that allow Muni to follow up.
As of right now, Muni repairmen are on the scene, hopefully fixing the problem to prevent any further traffic problems. Here are some photos of the Muni Smoke Monster, both from above and on the street:
