Here’s What’s Happening This Weekend…

If you’re not heading out of town, or over to the Outside Lands Festival at Golden Gate Park this weekend, there’s still plenty of stuff to do right here in our backyard. Here’s what’s happening in South of Market this weekend:

The Nice Guy Trio… Unplugged

Tonight at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, the Nice Guy Trio will be performing as part of the New Frequencies Unplugged Series that occurs every Friday evening in the Grand Lobby at YBCA (Corner of 3rd & Mission). The performance is from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. and FREE for everyone. There will also be a no host bar featuring Specialty Beer and Wines.

Giants Host the Biggest Weekend of Their Season

If you follow us at LiveSOMA, you know all about Virgin America Night (and then some). But what I haven’t expressed enough is the importance of this weekend’s three game series against the Padres. The Padres are in first place, 2.5 games ahead of the Giants, so if the Giants sweep this weekend, they’ll regain first place for the first time in… well, a long time.

Yesterday afternoon, Pablo Sandoval woke up from his 2 month home run drought with a Splash Hit AND a triple that almost became an inside the park home run. Hopefully this Sunday, Lincecum wakes up from his recent sluggishness.

In addition to Virgin America Night, there’s also AT&T Park’s First Ever Jazz Fest from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. before the game this evening. Unfortunately, if you don’t already have tickets to tonight’s game, it’s sold out. Perhaps you should head over to Pedro’s Cantina for some quality $3 tacos and their quite interesting signature Margaritas.

As for the other two games- they’re both day games tomorrow and Sunday. Here’s all the info you need to know:

Saturday: First Pitch – 1:10 p.m.
Pitchers: Madison Bumgarner Vs. Mat Latos
Tickets: Starting at $27. To purchase, click here.
.
Sunday: First Pitch – 1:05 p.m.
Pitchers: Tim Lincecum Vs. Wade LeBlanc
Tickets: Starting at $29. To purchase, click here.

Volunteer for Your Dog.

This Saturday is the Second Saturday of the month, which means there will be a clean up effort over at the tentatively named Rincon Hill Dog Park.

Take your dog over to the corner of Bryant and Beale, and let him run around the open space while you meet your neighbors and help them keep this future dog park location clean. The monthly Clean Sweep will take place Saturday morning from 9 – 11:30 a.m.

For more information, check out the Rincon Hill Dog Park Facebook Fan Page Here.

Hey, What’s the Big Idea?

Saturday Night, the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts is hosting the Big Idea Night; a late-night Art Project aimed at the DIY crowd, looking to build, design and explore your artistic mind.

YBCA will be transformed into a nocturnal maker’s paradise. What is a maker, you might ask? A maker is someone who does. Someone who derives pleasure from the act of creation and the sheer pleasure of handiwork. A rare breed indeed, but a breed that is alive and well in the Bay Area—as evidenced by the success and relevance of TechnoCRAFT. We live in a unique region where innovations, workarounds and basement fiddling are the very currency of creative capital, and we’re bringing it to you, for free.

Here’s a video promo for the Big Idea DIY event:

The Big Idea event is FREE so long as you RSVP Here. That link is also a great place for additional information. The party itself runs from 9 p.m. – 2 a.m. at the YBCA (Corner of 3rd St. and Mission St.). Don’t forget to bring a pair of your favorite shoes for the Sole Decorating Makeover Workshop.

Meet Your District 6 Candidates… Well, some of them.

Lastly, this is not part of the weekend, but I wanted to remind you of the upcoming District 6 Candidate Forum that is happening this Monday, August 16th at Kick Labs (250 Brannan Street). This time around, they’ve only invited 5 of the Candidates, but they are the 5 big wigs that have often been considered the “Top Candidates” by most of the local political commentators.

I’ve been trying to figure out if they’ll be streaming the forum on the web as they did in the last one, but have yet to hear back. As is the case anytime I try to get information from that part of town, it seems to fall on deaf (or uninterested) ears. In fact, I still have yet to get confirmation on my “mandatory RSVP” for the forum which I submitted about 3 weeks ago.

As of yesterday, they were still accepting RSVP’s, so I’m just assuming once you submit, you’re in. For more information, check out this link here.

If you know of anything else going on this weekend in SOMA, feel free to shoot me an email and I’ll add it to the list here.

As always, have a wonderful weekend, and thanks for continuing to help us grow! We are truly humbled by your support. As of yesterday, we beat our prior month’s traffic for the 8th straight month- not even halfway through the month!… Not too shabby, considering our grass-roots-only marketing effort.

If you haven’t already, be sure to “Like” us on Facebook, as we often have contests and giveaways over there to thank you for your support.
