UPDATE 2:
That was an interesting Candidate Forum. I’ll have a wrap-up tomorrow. Thanks to everyone who watched it here, and to everyone who helped in having it streamed live to us over at VidSF.
UPDATE 1:
ARE YOU READY TO RUMBLE?!?!? Tonight is the big night for District 6 Candidates. I can imagine each candidate is sequestered in their respective headquarters as I write this, studying up on the issues and planning some sharp digs at one another. How will they react and respond to one another? Who will come out strong, and who will walk out with their tail between their legs?
As I mentioned the other day, if you can’t go to the Candidate Forum, you can watch it RIGHT HERE, so check back at 6:30 p.m. in the window below, sit back and relax. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to shoot me an email.
I’m planning to actually go to the event- which is open to the public, but set in a very small community room considering the amount of candidates who are participating. Hopefully I’ll be able to get in. If not, I’ll just stare through the window like a Sasquatch. Or I’ll just go home and watch it here.
Check back tomorrow for my personal feedback and perspective from the Forum…
Original Post from June 21st:
Perhaps the most important event in South of Market this month is happening this Wednesday evening. The San Francisco Young Democrat’s District 6 Supervisor Forum will unofficially kick off the race for D6, and we’ll be streaming the event LIVE for you to view right here (courtesy of our friends over at VidSF- a great local video network)!
The Candidate Forum begins this Wednesday (June 23rd) at 6:30 p.m. It will feature the following candidates and their views on a bunch of local issues (and boy, do we have some doozies!):
I don’t know about you, but I’m very excited to see all of these candidates in one room, and hear what they have to say about their respective platforms. Based on who is participating alone, this should be interesting. In fact, the Forum’s moderator (and SF Examiner Columnist), Melissa Griffin’s original write up of the event, playfully asked each candidate to show up dressed as their favorite Facts of Life character. (For the record, my list goes as follows: Anna Conda as Jo, James Keys as Blair, Jim Meko and Jane Kim can fight over Tootie, and Theresa Sparks as a spot-on Mrs Garrett!)
If you’re not yet familiar with the District 6 Supervisor Race, I don’t blame you. Other than the fact that there are about 67 candidates trying to run, there really has yet to be much in terms of content about the issues themselves.
Meko recently released his first campaign video grabbing a sort of underdog head start. Other than that, I think I saw Jane Kim’s camp collecting signatures outside Safeway yesterday afternoon (yes, I signed it, no, they had no idea about this forum), and a bicycle rider with an Anna Conda sign in tether during Bike Week.
Oh, and let’s not forget all the “30 second… 45 second if you’re really important” cameos by Theresa Sparks and Deborah Walker at insert-your-community-event-here. (In all fairness, I have seen Deborah Walker stay longer than 45 seconds at one community Giants game event. Sparks left before the game even began.)
Stay tuned for details on the live stream we’ll be posting for you to watch here in the next day or so. Oh, and the event is open to the public, so feel free to actually go yourself!
A very special thanks to the Forum’s moderator, Melissa Griffin, for providing me with some details about this event, as well as some kind and supportive words about LiveSOMA.com! That’s right, my new favorite political columnist is also a fan!
