This Weekend: Volunteer and Let Your Dog Run Free!

I know one dog who can’t wait for the new Dog Run that is currently under development for the South of Market Neighborhood. My dog, Smush, has been chomping at the bits for a nice open space to call his own. As I’ve written in the past, there really aren’t many places to take your pet in SOMA, especially if you want to take them off their leashes.

Well, I do see people take their dogs off leash down at Rincon Park in South Beach, and there’s also that park over in Mission Bay, just past China Basin, but neither of those are completely ‘legal’ to take your dog off leash. There’s also a decent sized baseball field at Victoria Manalo Draves Park between Harrison and Folsom.

Enter the new Dog Run at the corner of Bryant and Beale. For the past few months, South of Market local, Marty Coressel has been working hard to get this park up and running. This Saturday, he’s organized another clean-up event. If you have a dog, or you just feel like lending a helping hand, head over to the (future) park location between 9 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

While you focus on some “minor maintenance” of the park (weeding, garbage removal, etc.), your dog can roam the grounds off their leash and mingle with other local pooches from the neighborhood. It’s a great way to spend your Saturday morning, and maybe meet some new friends. For more information, email Marty here.
