Central T Subway Keeps You Informed

In case you haven’t heard, the Central T Subway construction and utility relocation project is well underway. If you’ve taken a walk down Fourth Street between Mission and Brannan, chances are you’ve either seen a mugging, or more likely some digging.
Here at LiveSOMA, we’ve been keeping a close eye on the construction process. For the most part, other than a couple of sidewalks and a traffic lane or two, the construction hasn’t had too big of an impact on the area. However, I can’t speak for all the businesses along that street. Unfortunately, with all of the sidewalk detours and large metal grates, I could see how many of those businesses are possibly suffering from lack of foot traffic.
Don’t blame Central T though, they’re just the messenger, notifying the neighborhood of the City’s intent to bridge Caltrain with Chinatown. Jack hammers hammering, bulldozers dozing- they’re a modern day Paul Revere pounding their message into the heads of local residents between the hours of 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. And I thought that Duck Boat was bad!
It turns out they have a heart. They’re doing their part in notifying the locals of all the businesses they’re effecting. If you subscribe to their blog, it keeps you posted on construction developments, but it also includes a list of businesses that are ‘still open’ despite all the noise and dust. I think it’s safe to assume that most, if not all the businesses on 4th Street are still open, but it may help refresh your memory that they’re there if you check out the list.
