Operation Restore Defenestration Begins Tonight @ 1AM

A new exhibit/fundraising event dubbed ‘Operation Restore Defenestration’ is set to raise awareness and funding for artist, Brian Goggin’s Defenestration project on the corner of Sixth and Howard. The month long event is raising funds to repair and restore the Hugo Hotel so that the building is once again “beautiful by day and vibrant by night.”

Defenestration, a unique San Francisco art landmark by Goggin and his team of collaborators, was originally expected to be up for only a year; it has now weathered the elements for nearly thirteen. The building is a four story building with anthropomorphic furniture diving out of windows and scurrying on its walls. Locals and visitors alike continue to flock to this playful installation.  Although the piece is deeply loved by the community, it has fallen into unfortunate disrepair.

The exhibit opens tonight from 6 pm – 10 pm, and runs through April 2nd. For more information on Defenestration or to otherwise get involved, check out 1AM Gallery’s website. Or you can head over to defenestration.org for a good look at the project’s history, including a 40 photo slideshow. You can also sponsor a piece of the hanging furniture there.
