What Are You Doing For the Super Bowl?

It’s a big weekend for sports and drinking in South of Market. Perhaps the biggest of the year! Between the South of Market Happy Hour Event, San Francisco Beer Week, Giants FanFest and the Superbowl, there’s something going everyday between now and Sunday.
So what is everyone doing for the Super Bowl? I’m sure every bar with a television has some sort of deal inspired by the big game. Beer specials, wing specials, football pools…
I’ve come across a bunch of specials right here in South of Market. Here are some of the most interesting and unusual bar deals:
Bar Basic
Address: 510 Brannan Street
Time: 12 pm
Starting at Noon, Bar Basic is hosting a Super Bowl Potluck. Patrons are encouraged to bring their favorite dish to share with everyone else. They’ll also have drink specials and it’s apparently sponsored by Coors Light.
Bloodhound
Address: 1145 Folsom Street
Time: 2pm
The Bloodhound is famous (to me, at least) for hosting Meat Locker events every few months, where they hang an entire cow in their bar and serve it one slab at a time. It makes sense then that for the Super Bowl, they’ll go all out and host a “Super Bowl Sunday Pig Roast”, where Ryan Farr from 4505 Meats will be split-roasting a hog from ‘Becker Lane’. They’ll also have drink specials all day. Plus, they serve draft beer in mason jars!
Jillians
Address: 101 Fourth Street
Time: Whenever you’re thirsty
Jillian’s hasn’t really promoted any specific specials for the Super Bowl, but it’s a great place to watch the game with or without specials because it offers a ton of flat screen TV’s plastered all over the entire bar as well as a room full of pool tables in case you’re not really interested in the game and only want to watch the commercials. Oh, and did I mention they have a HUGE flat screen TV above the bar? It’s about 50 feet long; you can practically see it from the Moscone Center across the street.

No matter what you decide to do, I hope you enjoy your weekend. If I were to go to a bar for the game, I’d probably check out the Pig Roast, or go to Zeke’s Sports Bar. It’s a little run down, but if you’re looking for just a simple place to watch the game, I find it’s generally filled with good people. They also make special orders without much fuss. For instance, I’ve taken a few friends here in the past month or two and we started placing an order of wings poured over an order of fries. We call it the HC Deluxe, and they have yet to say no. I recommend it because it’s fantastic! Just looking at it makes me salivate.
