Not only is it a great sign for the local economy that new restaurants have been opening up all around SOMA (see also Fang and Blush Organic Frozen Yogurt), but I’m happy to announce a new Taqueria just opened right in the heart of the neighborhood!

The Iron Cactus is located at 683 Fourth Street between Brannan and Townsend, right near Caltrain and Safeway. They also serve reasonably priced alcohol! Yesterday I stopped in for some sangria, but unfortunately they didn’t have any yet. (Stay tuned for a full review in the next week or so.)

It’s great to see new businesses that are opening their doors, and also keeping them open on the weekends around here. If you haven’t noticed, much of South of Market is like a ghost town on weekends. I think as the neighborhood continues to develop, this will inevitably change. For starters, the Iron Cactus has a daily happy hour, featuring “half off select appetizers and tacos” as well as $5 wine and $3 draft beers from 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. Monday – Friday and from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. Saturdays.

In addition- yes, there’s more!- they share their space with The Creamery. That’s great if you like coffee, but also great because they now serve beer and wine as well! In fact, their sign now advertises 20 ounce beers for $4! As far as I know, that’s all the time! So grab a taco, and a beer and enjoy the Indian Summer on their patio!
