It’s always a good sign of the local economy when restaurants open and/or close. The good news is that in the past week, we’ve had two local food establishments open their doors! Last week, we featured Blush Organic Yogurt. Today, I had the opportunity to stop by Fang, the new Chinese restaurant over at 660 Howard Street.

The decor is fresh and new, and good Chinese food is definitely something we could use more of in South of Market. I briefly spoke with the Managing Partner, Kathy Fang (coincidence? I think not!), who told me that they look forward to feeding everyone in SOMA and beyond.

The Fangs also own Fang’s sister restaurant, the House of Nanking, a popular restaurant in the North Beach/Financial District area. If the popularity of that location and the menus for this location are accurate, this looks like one of my new favorite restaurants.

A few weeks ago, I literally walked around for a good hour+ in search of Chinese food. It was Saturday night, and as you probably know, a lot of places in SOMA aren’t even open, let alone serving Chinese take out! Now my prayers have been answered (I hope). Check back next week for a review.
