Mystery Solved (and a Review)… C.K. Deli

I’ve been wondering for a while what the name of this Deli was. The other day, I happened to be by it when I was hungry, so naturally, I ducked in for a sandwich. Well, actually I got a wrap. Anyway, I asked the girl behind the counter what the actual name was because the sign says ‘Deli’, but if everything were named like that, it’d be extremely confusing. She said the name is C.K. Deli.
As plain as the name is, so goes their entire venture. First of all, don’t try to go through the front door you see in the picture, it’s locked and the room inside the window is filled with old equipment. In fact, the only way to enter the C.K. Deli is through the garage. Not just through the garage, the deli itself is IN the garage!
As for the menu, they offer about 8-10 items ranging from salads and sandwiches to wraps. As always, I was in the mood for something spicy, so I ordered the Cajun Chicken Wrap. While I waited, I looked around to discover the chips rack (which had about 4 options: cheese doodles, potato chips, sunchips and jalapeno baked chips) and the drink rack which had peach snapple, sprite, water and one or two other choices. Very, very random selection, to say the least.
While I waited, a group of people came in with one of them raving about the deli. This restored the confidence in my choice to stop in there, as everything else about the place had completely erased it. I figured that at least they were good enough to convince one return customer. And, the place is called “Deli”, so they better be good at all things Deli. You can’t take a single name like Deli if you suck at being a Deli!
After a couple minutes, my wrap was ready, and I grabbed some jalapeno chips and a Peach Snapple. There was a ‘fixin’s bar’ with jalapenos, pickles, ketchup and other Hot Dog condiments as well.
When all is said and done, my Cajun Wrap from C.K. Deli wasn’t awful. It wasn’t great, but I’m just glad it wasn’t awful. I’m originally from the East Coast, so I don’t know if putting cream cheese on a deli sandwich is considered ‘normal’, but it was here. I also have no idea what made the wrap Cajun. It had some kick to it, but it was more of a south of the border kick than a Bourbon Street kick. Therefore, I would say that if you’re in the area of Harrison Street, between 2nd and 3rd streets, and you’re too hungry to walk a couple blocks, stop in for a bite. Otherwise, you’re better off walking a block or two in any direction to find something to eat.

I didn’t realize at the time I took this picture, but I have absolutely no idea what the name of this deli is… unless it’s just “Deli”. When I looked up the address, a place called “What’s Up Dog?” came up, but that appears to be an old listing. For now, I’ll call this Deli, and mention that they sell sandwiches, salads, wraps, burgers and hot dogs. Next time I go by there, I’ll ask if they have a real name. Unless you know it?
