Last week, my wife wanted to go to the Chieftain for dinner. Neither of us ordered anything remotely Irish, which I guess is what they probably make best.I was tempted to order the Irish Beef Stew. Instead, I opted for a Buffalo Chicken Wrap, and she ordered the curried veggie wrap. We also ordered Irish Potato Poppers to start.
I have this strange habit of ordering something, but liking what she orders better. And this time was no different. I tend to have cravings of Buffalo chicken, and I even go through Frank’s Hot Buffalo Sauce like nobody’s business. Their slogan is ‘I put that on everything’, and I most certainly do.
With that said, I’m a tough critic when it comes to anything buffalo. The buffalo chicken wrap at the Chieftain tasted more like a lettuce wrap with a little buffalo chicken tossed in. It was also pretty dry as far as buffalo goes. When I order buffalo, I want it drenched in buffalo sauce, and burning my taste buds.
The curried vegetable wrap was extremely messy, but I enjoyed it much more. It had a lot more flavor, and the vegetables were very filling. I think they added pickles to it, which really complimented the curry.
The highlight of the meal had to be the Irish Potato Poppers though. The dish came with 5 large poppers, fried to spicy perfection with a creamy, spiced dipping sauce. I’d never had jalapeno poppers that were filled with potato, and I must say that I would go back to the Chieftain just to have them again.
As for the bar itself, I had higher expectations. On the outside, it looks like a fun place, but when you go in, it’s rather plain. I didn’t even see a jukebox or anything. No games, no jukebox and only a couple TV’s. I thought Irish Pubs had games and stuff, but I could be wrong.

Authentic Irish Pub & Restaurant. Get your fix of traditional Irish fare: Shepherd’s Pie, Irish Beef Stew, Fish & Chips. They also have “American fare and Modern California cuisine.” Weekend Brunch as well!
