Unfortunately, I’m a little late running this. Fortunately though, most of the events are still to come! Summer is a great time of year on South of Market. There are lots of free entertainment options for your weekend, as well as your lunch hour during the week. We’ve been keeping you up to speed on the People in Plazas Summer Concert Series, and now there’s also the month long Festival at Yerba Buena Gardens.The Yerba Buena Gardens Festival provides free performances throughout the month of July. Here’s a list of all the performances associated with the festival. For more information, check out www.YBGF.org. Otherwise, grab a picnic basket and a blanket, and head over for some afternoon relaxation.
Thursday, July 16
Eric John Kaiser - Celebrate French Bastille Day with a French Troubadour. 2:00 p.m.
Saturday & Sunday, July 18-19
Kularts’ IBIG: Pulse of Desire – The newest dance theater work by director/choreographer Alleluia Panis. 1:00 p.m.
Tuesday, July 21
Todco Poets – Annual Elder Poetry Event. Their group poem, Dare We Dream In Concrete is engraved in granite at the entrance to the Yerba Buena Gardens. 12:30 p.m.
Thursday, July 23
Tango No. 9 – “An all-star Bay Area ensemble (members have played with The Residents, Tom Waits, Club Foot Orchestra, Eric McFadden, Extra Action Marching Band…) united in a love for a famously elusive non- native art form.” 12:30 p.m.
Sunday, July 26
SF Theater Festival - The 6th annual one-day theater extravaganza will be held on from 11:00am – 5:00pm. ”See 130 exciting theater groups and solo performers, including a great children’s program! Admission Free.”
Thursday, July 30
John Worley & Worlview – “John has been a mainstay on the Bay Area jazz scene for almost a quarter century, a consummate sideman who has played everything from swing, bebop and free jazz to R&B, funk and Afro-Caribbean dance music.” 12:30 p.m.
