Pink Triangle Symbol Vandalized!

During all the craziness that was the San Francisco Pride Festival, I never even heard that the Pink Triangle that symbolically hung over Twin Peaks was set on fire! I found out while watching the local news this morning.
I could see this triangle from my living room window throughout the weekend, and never noticed anything wrong. Apparently, early Sunday morning around 5 a.m., someone set the triangle ablaze. Fortunately, it was put out by local firefighters about a half hour later, so it wasn’t completely destroyed.
I understand that there are a lot of opposing viewpoints about Pride Weekend, but I really find it ridiculous that, in 2009 (and in this great city), there are still some individuals out there who wish to intentionally rain on somebody else’s parade. I mean, whether you support the LGBT community or not, is it really that hard to just let them express their pride and have their moment, if only for a weekend? Protesting with signs or posters is one thing, but setting one of their symbols on fire? What is this, 1950′s Mississippi???
